Oakland Raiders: Mock Draft 2012

Oakland Raiders: Mock Draft 2012

David Wilson – Apr 5, 2012

After a free agency period when the Raiders picked up a number of players at key positions, they are in a much better position going into this draft than may thought they would be. No glaring holes on the team, but as with every other team, positions they would like to upgrade.

I have tried to keep this draft realistic in terms of when players would be available, and chosen players with Reggie McKenzie’s philosophy in mind. This is a change from just about every previous Raider draft, where many players were drafted with their athletic ability being the overriding factor.

Round 3 (95): Tony Bergstrom G Utah – Bergstrom is a tackle at a stretch, but I have him at guard. He has the athleticism to play in the zone system, and showed well in his performance at the Senior Bowl against top competition. The Raiders need another guard as Cooper Carlisle is not a long term answer at 35 years old (and average at best), and there is nothing in terms of talent behind him. Bergstrom is a quality player who could start quickly if needed. Illinois’s Jeff Allen (G/T)would also be a great choice if still available.
